Interview: Adagio Soaps

I was able to interview the lovely Miss Rose from Adagio Soaps, my favorite brand for facial and foaming soaps, I think that you will all love her outlook on beauty and balance. This meant so much to me for herb to be enthusiastic about the Miss Jupiter project. Thank you Miss Rose and all of my lovely fans.

Your soaps include only the bare minimum of ingredients, while still being fragrant and having deep cleansing and healing value. How is it that you select your ingredients and create your recipes?
I create recipes by selecting ingredients that will bring balance to the products.  For instance, a great bar of soap will lather, moisturize, clean, and smell fantastic without melting away quickly.  Each ingredient in our bar soap recipe is selected to provide one or more of those properties.  For instance, coconut oil provides great cleansing and lather properties, but will not moisturize like shea butter.  An accurate balance of these ingredients gives cleansing, moisture and lather.

My skin upon purchasing a bar of your soap was dry, broken out, and covered in mosquito bites. Nearly immediately after washing my face with your soap I had results! What, in your opinion is the most important healing ingredient in your products?
I really don't think I can credit one ingredient for the 'healing' process.  I think when you treat the skin with a simple balanced product, it responds the best.  Our products clean without stripping and moisturize with out overloading the skin.  I am convinced that the simpler, the better.

Do you ever purchase any products from other vendors or brands, if so what > brands and why?
I typically only purchase products from other vendors or brands for research.  Just yesterday I bought two bars of cold process soap from the hardware store because their ingredients were intriguing.  I will use them, see what I like or don't like and possibly make additions to our line.  I love the research and development process!

What is your favorite of your own products?
Oh, boy.  Eucalyptus w/ Loofah bar soap.  It's our basic soap recipe, with eucalyptus essential oils and ground loofah.  It smooths the skin, wakes you up and is very invigorating.  I do get stuck on a bar or scent for awhile, especially if it is new.  But somehow I always go back to Eucalyptus w/ Loofah.

What ingredients you use can be grown in a home garden? Do you grow any of  your own ingredients?
We use rosemary, lavender, verbena, lemon balm, and patchouli.  We have grown these in our own garden before.  Fortunately/unfortunately we couldn't keep up with the demand from our own garden, so I purchase what we need from a supplier dedicated to providing organic, sustainable and wild harvested herbs.

Do you have any suggestions of brands or vendors for me to purchase from > and interview in the future, if so who?
Summit Soap Company from Breckenridge, CO.  They are a green company.  They also have a commercial line for businesses and institutions who wish to reduce their impact.
